While most of the children get their wisdom tooth removed, some adults also opt for tooth extraction due to other reasons. Excessive tooth infection, tooth decay and misplacing can lead to tooth extraction. Tooth extraction is carried out by an oral surgeon or dentist and is a comparatively quick procedure with general anaesthesia, or intravenous injection or a combination of both. Removing tooth with visible signs of damage involves a simple extraction process but those broken below the surface needs a more complex procedure.

  • Procedure for a tooth extraction and dental treatment in India -
    The methodology of one’s tooth extraction will either be surgical or general, depending on whether one’s tooth is damaged in its roots or on the enamel.
  • Simple extraction -
    One will receive a local anaesthetic, which numbs the area around that particular tooth so the person will feel only pressure, not pain, during the extraction procedure. The respective dentist then utilizes an instrument known as elevator to loosen the tooth and forceps to remove it.
  • Surgical extraction -
    Here the patient is likely to receive both local as well as intravenous anaesthesia, the latter makes one calm and composed. The patient may also receive general anaesthesia, depending on any medical situation. With general anaesthesia, one will remain unconscious during the surgery.
The oral surgeon or dentist will cut into one’s gum with a small incision. They may require removing the bone around the patient’s tooth or cutting that particular tooth before it can be eliminated.
  • Risks involved in tooth extraction -
    Generally, after the extraction, a blood clot eventually forms in the socket - the gap in the bone from where the tooth has been extracted. Nonetheless, if the blood clot does not form, the bone inside the socket can prove to be uncovered. If this occurs, the dentist will put a sedative in the area for protection.
  • Recovery period -
