Types Of Dental Implants

Dental implants are surgically implanted metal posts that are set beneath the gum in the jawbone. The replacement tooth is mounted on the metal posts once they are set in the right place. Dental implants in India are a popular treatment for missing tooth.

Dental implants have many benefits as compared to other alternatives like dentures or bridges. They have a tendency to become loose and slide or shift from their positions. It may result in difficulty to speak or eat. The change in position of the dentures may also cause a problem in the natural appearance of the teeth.

Dentures and bridges may result in soft spots, sores, unnatural ridges and gagging that can make the individual feel uncomfortable. However, dental implants are prepared with special care to ensure that the person is comfortable and their experience of the dental implant is closest to their natural tooth. The teeth adjacent to the gap where the implant is placed are also prepared before the implants are finally inserted in the gums. The fact that the implant is infused into the gum before the replacement teeth is set on it ensures that there is no chance of loosening or slipping away as is the case with other services. These are the reasons behind the growing popularity of dental implants in India.

Almost every good dental clinic in India offers the services of dental implants. There are two types of dental implants that you can get at any of these clinics:

  • Endosteal implants: This implant requires two surgeries: first to implant the post into the jawbone beneath the gum. The gums are given some time to heal and then the second surgery is conducted to mount the replacement tooth.
  • Subperiosteal implants: These implants can be set with a single surgery. First, a metal frame is fixed in the gap where the implants are supposed to be set and then, the post is attached to the metal frame in a manner such that it protrudes out of the frame. Once the adjoining areas are healed, the replacement tooth is mounted on the post.

Dental implants are not suitable for everyone. Only those with healthy gums and who do not suffer from any oral problems or diabetes can get this treatment done.
